How is crime negatively affecting businesses?

There are many ways in which crime could be effecting a business. Probably the most common is theft on products, or damage to products. This can occur in all sorts of businesses, from small shops to the whole music/video game industry.

Other ways that crime can negatively effect a business could be through employees themselves. For instance if someone was caught doing fraudulent activities, and they worked for a bank, customers of that back are then going to be hesitant to use that bank anymore cause there will be trust issues.

Businesses are also doing many background checks on potential employees, hence why it is do hard to get a job with a criminal record. This could mean that the business gets applications from some people who currently have a criminal record and would be a good candidate for the job, but because of that criminal record they may feel that they can't employ that person.
