What does PEMDAS mean in math?

PEMDAS stands for:

Multiplication

Division

Addition

Subtraction

Example:

7 × 8 + 36 ÷ 9 =

56 + 36 ÷ 9 =

56 + 4 = 60

Explanation: First, You would have to see what comes first. Multiplication comes first which is 7 X 8 = 56. Next, you drop everything down. Now it will be like this:

56 + 36 ÷ 9. What I did is I dropped down everything else, because I multiplied 8 X 7 which is 56. So now your left with 56 + 36 ÷ 9. Division comes before addition so, you cannot solve from left to right, so 36 ÷ 9 is 4. Now you drop the 56. Now your left with 56 + 4. 56 + 4 is equal to 60. 60 is your answer!
