What was the deadliest battle of World War 1?

The battle of the Somme, in a couple of months over 600,000 British soldiers were killed to gain 8 miles of a 12 mile front. About 400,000 Werchmat men died as well. Litterly all for nothing, it took place begining July to November 18th, 1916; on the French front.
