What is highest seed to make sweet 16?

As of my last update, the highest seed to reach the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament is a No. 16 seed. This historic achievement was first accomplished by the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) in 2018, when they defeated No. 1 Virginia in the first round. Since then, no other No. 16 seed has advanced beyond the Sweet 16.
