What is the melting pot theory?

The idea that the different peoples who have come to the United States have blended to create a new culture

ANS 2 - That's a very good answer, except for limiting it to the United States. - I know for certain that Canada has a part of that same theory, and possibly Australia too. ( contrary to some ideas, the world does not revolve around USA)
