Where does the name vespa come from?

"Vespa" is Italian for "Wasp". The name is most likely derives from the sound a two stroke engine makes whole running. Interestingly, Vespa made another three wheeled vehicle called an "Ape" (prounounced Ah-pay) which is translates to "Bee".
