Why does psyche hide the lamp till night fall and then look upon her mysterious husband?

Psyche hides the lamp and waits until her husband falls asleep because she is curious to know his true identity. She wants to see his face and confirm whether he is truly a monster as others have suggested. However, her curiOSity leads her to disobey his instructions and ultimately causes trouble.
