How does temperature change with altitude in the troposhere?

In the troposphere, temperature generally decreases with increasing altitude. This is because the troposphere is primarily heated from the Earth's surface, so as you move higher, you are moving away from the heat source and temperatures cool down due to lower air pressure and density.
