What was the brides scold?

It was something used in the medieval times for women whogossiped or spoke too freely. It was used for punishment. It was a large iron framework placed on the head, forming a cage. There was a metal strip on the scold that fit into the mouth, it was sharpened wit ha point or covered wit hspikes so that if you moved your toongue it would cause injuries.
