Or if you want an answer that will actually be of help to you then take the sabre tooth tiger for example. When there were loads of them about there were also loads of large, slow animals. Now sabres could only run fast for a short period of time so if the prey could outrun them for a while then they would get tired and die of hunger. So they were OK with the big, heavy slow animals, until, of course, they all died out only leaving the Sabres with the faster and more nimble prey which they couldn't keep up with. Therefore they all died out. Hope that helps
