Any answer would depend on whether you are referring to a feeling you have when you are lying awake on your bed in the dark, or whether you are asleep and dreaming that someone is lying next to you. Admittedly, it is very possible that you could be dreaming and only think that you are awake when this feeling occurs. Your emotions regarding this presence lying next to you are also very important, since perceiving a hostile, threatening presence would be quite different than perceiving a loving, comforting presence.

> Some individuals with deep religious faith say that they can feel the actual presence of Christ, a beloved Saint or angels near them as they sleep. Other persons feel the presence of a much-loved person who has passed away. Yet again, it is not unusual for lonely individuals to dream of an imagined lover beside them in bed; this last example would be wish-fulfillment, a common sort of dream in which the subconscious mind produces a dream that fulfills something deeply desired in the safe context of sleep.
