Horses like to be given treats like carrots, Apples, and grain like oats or barley. As a main meal, though horses prefer 90% grass hay, and grass to graze on a regular basis.
Treats as those above should only be given sparingly mainly due to the very high carbohydrate/sugar levels that can make a horse colic if fed too much (among other issues), as well as according to the level of work or activity the horse has been subject to, regardless of breed, as well as physiological status and/or gender. For instance, turnips shouldn't be fed to mares or foals and should be fed sparing because too much of it has been linked to thyroid problems.
