The first 5-star hotel in North America was the Ritz-Carlton in Montreal. Founded in 1912, it was the first to integrate the product and service standards established by Cesar Ritz. It underwent a major renovation in 2008 and just reopened - and from what was shown, it may well be a frontrunner for the best 5-star in North America.
