Most rifles chambered in 30-30 like the Winchester mod 94, uses tubular magazine. Because of this the 30-30 usually cartridges uses bullets that are flat in the front, if they wear pointed, the cartridges could detonate. Therefore i will say the hunting range is up to around 150 yards.
There are exception, and that is the new leverevolution bullet from hornady, they are using pointed bullets where the tip is made of plastic, this creates a aerodynamic bullet, and also makes them safe to use in leveraction rifles. This increases the range considerably. You can also load ammo you self with pointed .30 caliber bullets, but in that case you can only have one cartridge in the chamber and one in the magazine. Equipped with a scope and aerodynamic bullets, you should be able to increase the range up to 250 yards or more.
