Who captured Edessa and defeated crusaders at Damascus?

Edessa was captured by Zengi, the Atabeg of Mosul, in 1144. His forces defeated the Crusaders at the Battle of Damascus in 1148 during the Second Crusade, effectively thwarting the Crusaders' attempts to expand their territory in the region.
