In Sims 3 how do you get your sim to garden?

Handiness can be learnt by reading the Handiness book in a book shelve or by tinkering certain objects like the toilet, shower, sink, computer, etc. To improve gardening, you can buy vegetables from the grocery store and plant them (go into your Sim's inventory and click 'Plant (Many)'). After that you can watch the gardening channel.
