Since everyone is so busy these days, it's best to send out your invitations eight weeks in advance. There are a few things you can do to help the RSVP process as well as the event itself, go smoothly.
Definitely include: (1) an RSVP card with a line for the guest's name(s) (do not include the letter "M" at the beginning as doctors and clergy, etc. may be responding), (2) lines for number of guests attending and not attending, (3) include an RSVP date, (4) write a small number on the back of the RSVP card that corresponds with the guest(s) number on your guest list for double-checking purposes, (5) include a self-addressed stamped (a pretty stamp is nice if you have time to go to the post office) envelope.
Misc. suggestions for lines to include: (1) number of people attending reception, (2) number of children attending, (3) meal choices, (4) number of people attending other activities.
Clever suggestions for items to include: (1) maps to various destinations (event location, etc.), (2) list of activities with dates and times, (3) suggestions for attire worn at all activities.
