What is jewelry made from?

There are so many different types of jewelry that this question is effectively impossible to answer. Jewelry can be made from almost anything, come in practically any shape or size, and can be handcrafted or mass-produced by machine.

A piece of string with a couple beads on it that you tie around your neck is jewelry. So is a carefully crafted diamond ring. So is a factory-produced plastic bracelet. There are more differences than similarities in the crafting of jewelry, so there is no one way in which jewelry is made.
