Do the elf on the shelf actually move?

The elf on the shelf stays in one location usually from the beginning of December to Christmas Eve.

The elf watches the children of the family and reports to Santa Claus what he thinks they want, or if he thinks they deserve anything at all.

On the night of Christmas Eve, Santa comes and retrieves his elf and leaves gifts behind for the children he heard were good.
