Did homo erectus invent clothing

It is believed that Homo erectus were the first hominins to have worn clothing, around 1.5 million years ago. Evidence comes from the discovery of tools for sewing and shaping hides. Clothing would have helped Homo erectus survive in various climates and protect their skin against environmental hazards.
