Naegleria fowleri is a free-living amoeba found in warm freshwater environments, like hot springs and poorly maintained Swimming Pools. It can cause a rare but severe brain infection known as primary amoebic meningoencephalitis (PAM) when water containing the amoeba enters the body through the nose. This condition progresses rapidly and is often fatal, with symptoms appearing within days of exposure.
