The mesosphere, located between about 50 to 85 kilometers above the Earth's surface, is characterized by decreasing temperatures with altitude, reaching as low as -90°C. In this layer, meteoroids burn up upon entry due to friction with the atmosphere, creating meteor trails. Additionally, noctilucent clouds can form at the upper reaches of the mesosphere, appearing as glowing blue clouds in the twilight.
