Why do you need a periodic table?

As new elements are "discovered" or created artificially, the discoverer/creator gets to name them (within limits). So recent artificially-created elements have been named things like berkelium (named for the University of California at Berkeley, where it was synthesized) or mendelevium, named after Dmitri Mendeleev, father of the Periodic Table.

According to www.webelements.com, we're up to element 111, roentgenium, which was discovered on 8th December 1994 at the GSI in Darmstadt, Germany.
