Bethlehem is located in the West Bank, a territory in the Middle East. It lies approximately 10 kilometers south of Jerusalem and is part of the Palestinian territories. The city is situated at an elevation of about 775 meters (2,500 feet) above sea level in the Judean Mountains. Historically and religiously significant, Bethlehem is known as the birthplace of Jesus Christ.
