What does 'saint' mean?

Saint means holy.

A saint is a person who has died and gone to heaven. Originally it was a name given to all Christians generally (Colossians 1:2) but was restricted very early to those who were eminent for holiness. In the strict sense it is those who have evidenced heroic virtue and are in heaven.
