Why does Juliet ask Romeo to reject his identity as a Montague?

Juliet asks Romeo to reject his identity as a Montague because their families are in a long-standing feud. By asking him to do so, she hopes to overcome the barrier that their surnames have created and allow their love to flourish without the constant conflict and consequences that come with being from rival families.
