What is the external appearance of a mandir?

ancient mandhirs are usually decorated with great greatest art works ever......the art work is carving stones sculptures.......many art work just make us awe....it has a main room the core.....which has the idol of god.....it has many other idols too......pujas that is prayers are done by brahmins in the mandir.......
