What are weakness of elie in night?

Elie struggled with religion in the book, "Night", because he could see all this bad stuff happening, such as people dying, babies being thrown into fires, etc., but saw God doing nothing about it. He saw people praying to a god and following the way they knew how, but no progress or change. Even in the end of the book, Elie gets out of it, but doesn't think it is God that did it, but luck. It is really a strong problem because in continuous pain, faith becomes hard and so like Elie, you can stop believing.
