How did the superstition if you drop a fork spoon or knife come to be?

A man will visit if you drop a knife, a woman if it's a fork or a child if its a spoon. I think they will be unexpected visitors..

Maybe its true someone else should pick it up if it's a knife, there should always be a remedy.
