BMW hood release will not open I pull the lever hard but it does not release the catch do i have to remove weather shield under engine to find the catch and do it directly model 530i year 2000?

cable is probably frayed or snapped, same thing happened with 1997 528i. DO NOT try to fix on your own, lots of electrical problems follow. order parts online and take them to a body shop. parts cost no more than $40 including shipping for mine. try www.bmrparts.com or (800)269-0863. good luck.

Spoke to BMW engineer who said a good pull on release lever at same time as helper pushes down over headlamps may free a stiff bonnet or hood catch was successful
