Seven people are verified as having walked around the world:
1) Dave Kunst is the first person verified to have walked completely around the world. Beginning his journey on June 20, 1970, his walk took him a total of four years, finishing on October 5, 1974. He started in Waseca, Minnesota with his brother John, walked to New York City, flew to Portugal and walked to India. John was killed by bandits in Afghanistan. Dave flew to Perth, Australia, walked across it then flew to LA, and walked back to Waseca.
2) Robert Garside is the first person to have ever run around the world. Beginning his journey on October 20, 1997 from New Delhi, India, Garside continued his run around the world until he was back in New Delhi on June 13, 2003.
3) Rosie Swale-Pope is the first woman to run around the world, She began in October 2, 2003 in Switzerland and ran to Magadan in far eastern Russia, via Moscow. From October 2006 she ran from Edmonton, Canada to New York City on October 2, 2007. Then she flew from Newfoundland to Iceland on January 24, 2008. By June 18, 2008, she arrived in Scotland and was able to run the rest of the way home on August 25, 2008.
4) Arthur Blessitt didn't strictly walk around the world, but he did walked 38,102 miles in 315 countries, including 52 that were in a state of war. He crossed every ocean and touched every single continent. He did this entire journey while carrying a cross that was 12 feet long, six feet wide and weighed 45 pounds, from Christmas Day, 1969 over the next 37 years.
5) Ffyona Campbell was the first woman to walk around the world. Starting at the age of 16 at the northernmost point of Scotland in August 1983, she walked down to the southernmost point of England. Two years later, she set off for New York and walked from the United States to Los Angeles. Two years after that, she walked from Sydney to Perth in Australia. In 1991, she went from Cape Town, South Africa to Tangiers, Morocco, which she reached in 1993. In April of 1994, she walked through Europe, arriving back in Britain in October.
6) Steve Newman was the first man to walk solo around the world, He started in 1983 from his home in Bethel, Ohio, eventually crossing 20 countries and 15,000 miles over the course of four years.
7) Jesper Olsen run around the world, from January 1, 2004 to October 23, 2005.
