The general criminal defense lawyer must first usually undergo 4 years of undergraduate study and then move on to about 2-3 years of law school. After law school one needs to pass the BAR exam. After this you should recieve your J.D. and any futher advanced degrees such as specializing in Assault and Battery, can be received by taking on further education.
