Why did the people of Mecca persue the Muslims?

The people of Mecca pursued the Muslims primarily due to the threat posed by the growing influence of Islam, which challenged the existing social, economic, and religious order. The Muslims, led by the Prophet Muhammad, rejected the polytheistic beliefs that were central to Meccan society, which angered the Quraysh tribe, the ruling elite of Mecca.
