Serendipity is essentially "accidental innovation." Basically, when someone comes up with a good idea by accident. An example can be when some producers of at a tire company accidentally dropped in a certain chemical into a chemical mix. That chemical, added accidentally, actually turned out to be quite useful and made extremely strong and effective tires.

It's related to science, because serendipity certainly contributes to the field of science. In addition, serendipity and science are alike; they both produce innovation.
