North Carolina and Tennessee. The Smoky Mountains are in the southern range of the Appalachian Mountains and includes parts of both North Carolina and Tennessee. Great Smoky Mountains National Park encompasses over 520,000 acres of land (276,000 acres are located in North Carolina and 244,000 in Tennessee).
