How did the Texans adapt to the shortages during the civil war?

The Union blockade caused shortages of many essentials in Texas. They used substitutions for common supplies which were not available. For instance, coffee was substituted by grains, vegetables and cornmeal. Clothing reverted back to the earlier pioneer days when all their garments were homemade.
