Why did jhon Cabot explore Canada?

John Cabot explored Canada in the late 15th century in search of a westward route to Asia. He was commissioned by King Henry VII of England to find a faster trade route to Asia and to claim new lands for England. Despite not finding the route he was seeking, Cabot's journey laid the foundation for English claims to North America.
