Main Karakoram Thrust(MKT) was formed in cretaceous due to collision of Kohistan-Ladakh with southern margin of Micro Karakoram Plate (Tahir kheli et al., 1982)

MKT is a thrust fault that seperates the cretaceous-tertiary rocks of Kohistan-Ladakh arc from the late Paleozoic metasediments of Karakoram plate. In kohistan it is known as MKT, while in ladakh area it is known as Shyok suture zone.
