I own a 1998 Volvo S70 and when you pull the hood release lever and go to open the hood using the hood release underneath the grille one side is stuck and will not budge. How do I go about opening it?

This is a common problem with Volvo hood latch assemblies. An easy way to do this, especially if your by yourself, is to wedge a little piece of wood or a cloth under the hood after you initially pulled on the release handle. This will at least release the hood enough to stick something underneath. Once you have done this, pull on the release handle again. The hood will release very easily.

Many things have been tried, but wear and tear on the latches and non-adjustible hood stops, cause this problem frequently.

Hope this helps.

Haha. Right in the very middle there is a lever right under the grille. Its kind of like a door handle and you pull it towards you.

I experience the same problem with my 2000 s70. It is easier when have someone lift up on the hood when you pull the release lever to fully pop the hood otherwise when I am alone I pull the release lever and one side pops - I then lift the hood and pull the release lever again and usually the other side pops.
