What if your lawn guy fertilized on a very windy day and then you have had no rain for over a week and no way of watering all the lawn - only part of the back. Looks brown. Can't let him mow right?
Regardless of whether or not it's been fertlized, you shouldn't mow any grass that is brown. You'll do more damage and end up with tracks of damaged turf.
