Why the maputo was started?

The Maputo Agreement, signed in 1992, was initiated to end the civil war in Mozambique, which had caused widespread devastation and loss of life since its onset in 1977. The agreement aimed to establish peace and reconciliation between the government and the opposition, represented by the Mozambican National Resistance (RENAMO).
