Mount Olympus was considered the home of the twelve principal gods and goddesses in ancient Greek mythology, known as the Olympians. These included Zeus, the king of the gods; Hera, his wife and goddess of marriage; Poseidon, god of the sea; Demeter, goddess of agriculture; Athena, goddess of wisdom; Apollo, god of the sun and arts; Artemis, goddess of the hunt; Ares, God of War; Aphrodite, goddess of love; Hephaestus, god of fire and craftsmanship; Hermes, the messenger god; and Hestia, goddess of the hearth. Together, they represented various aspects of human life and the natural world, ruling over different domains from their divine abode.
