To administer internal medications intramuscularly (IM), first select an appropriate muscle site, such as the deltoid, vastus lateralis, or ventrogluteal muscles. Clean the injection site with an alcohol swab, then draw the medication into a sterile syringe and expel any air bubbles. Insert the needle at a 90-degree angle to the skin with a quick, smooth motion, then aspirate to check for blood return. If there is no blood, inject the medication slowly, withdraw the needle, and apply gentle pressure with a cotton ball or gauze.
