Other greenhouse gases, such as methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O), are generally considered more potent than CO2 in terms of their heat-trapping capabilities, even though they are present in smaller quantities. Methane, for instance, is over 25 times more effective than CO2 at trapping heat over a 100-year period. However, CO2 remains the largest contributor to global warming due to its higher concentration and long atmospheric lifetime. Therefore, while other gases can be more damaging in the short term, CO2 is still a significant concern for long-term climate change.
