Matthew Flinders was a British navigator and cartographer known for his extensive explorations of Australia's coastline. His most significant journey occurred between 1801 and 1803 when he led the HMS Investigator on a voyage to chart the southern coast of Australia, including the first complete mapping of the continent. He also played a key role in demonstrating that Australia was a single landmass and coined the name "Australia" for the continent. Flinders' voyages contributed greatly to the understanding of Australian geography and navigation.
