How many bags can I check and how many can I carry on on Delta flights?

Generally airlines allow you one free carry-on. This should be a medium sized bag such as a duffel bag, and women's purses, briefcases, and laptop bags can be carried on in addition to the carry on. Unfortunately many people will carry on large suitcases and try to pass them off as carry on, so often times overhead storage space runs out and/or stuardess will begin to go through and make people take their luggage off the plane to check it at the gate. If you can store your carry on bag and accessories below your seat, you will avoid the hassle of the overhead bins. To check a bag as cargo, the first bag costs around $25 and additional bags will cost incrementally more.
