Why does the US play the leading role in world affairs?

Because it has (and pretty much always has had) the most money, weapons and power in general. It has a knack for joining in just at the last minute, too, which adds to the allusion that it is always there to 'save the day'. But we saw what happened in Iraq, didn't we?
