What are the superstitious beliefs in agricultural practices?

The moon and its phases and placement play a major role in many agricultural superstitions.

Planting and harvesting are commonly done at the new and full moon respectively.

The house or placement of the moon can help determine what type of crop you should be planting.

Animals should be slaughtered according to the moons phases. Preserving meats (smoking and brining) last better in certain phases of the moon.

Young animals tend to wean better in a waning moon.

If you need to geld an animal, or crop its horns, or shear its coat, there are phases and houses of the moon that are more auspicious than others.

Many of these things can be found in the Old FarmersAlmanac, and you might be surprised at the number of farmers that still go by them.
