Why is chapter 5 in Frankenstein so crucial to the whole novel?

In Chapter 5, Victor is successful in bringing his creation to life. However, he becomes horrified because of the creature's appearance. He runs from the room and does not return until the creature has left. This leaves the creature all alone and without a guide or father-figure. At first the creature is good and well-meaning. But without Victor or anyone to guide him, he must find out about life by himself and people treat him terribly. This eventually leads to the creature's change into a monster and the death of most of Victor's family and other important people in Victor's life. So this chapter serves to set up the change in both the creature and the creator.
