There are several possible causes for the failure to fire. When this happens, inspect the cartridge. If there is a strong indentation which should have ignited the primer, then change ammunition. Also, inspect the chamber area where the firing pin lands. If there is a large indentation at the rim of the chamber which could be caused by dry firing, then the cartridge is not properly supported and the firing pin is not crushing the rim of the cartridge, setting off the primng compound. Correcting this problem requires replacing the metal at the rim of the chamber and there are a couple of methods to do this. If there is no indentation or only a light one, inspect the firing pin for damage and proper protrusion. The tip may be broken or the firing pin may not be moving freely in its well. Clean and repair as necessary. The hammer spring may be weak and not striking the firing pin with sufficient force. Check it last.
